Directorates and Divisions

Tasks: Strategic and operational management of the FOPH, representing the office on working groups, parliamentary committees and international bodies; planning and supporting reform projects

The Communication and Campaigns Division provides information, both internally and externally, on topics and projects that the FOPH is dealing with. It prepares communications on Federal Council decisions on health policy and runs campaigns designed to inform the public about important health issues.

The Digital Transformation and Steering Directorate drives digitisation in the healthcare sector. With a view to future challenges, the directorate additionally promotes agile and interdisciplinary cooperation within the FOPH and the health sector.

The Health and Accident Insurance Directorate is responsible for authorising services and service providers, setting tariffs and shaping health insurance systems to the legislative specifications of parliament and the Federal Council.

The Health Protection Directorate assesses opportunities and risks in the areas of biomedicine, chemicals and radiation. On the basis of its assessments, it draws up protection concepts and raises public awareness.

The International Affairs Division manages the FOPH’s international work. It represents Switzerland’s interests at international organisations, in particular the World Health Organization (WHO), working closely with our directorates.

The Legal Affairs Division supports the FOPH’s work by dealing with the legal aspects of its business. It advises senior management and the units on all legal matters relevant to the FOPH.

The Management Services Division steers political business and provides support to the FOPH’s senior management and units. It also takes in the Evaluation and Research and Facility Management Services.

The Directorate promotes prevention and the continuing development of healthcare provision. It establishes legal frameworks and develops new public health strategies.
