Prevention and Public Health Services Directorate
The Directorate promotes prevention and the continuing development of healthcare provision. It establishes legal frameworks and develops new public health strategies.
The Directorate works to prevent and combat both communicable and non-communicable diseases (including mental illnesses and addiction). It promotes behaviour that is beneficial to health, improves framework conditions and enhances the population’s health literacy overall.
The Directorate also makes a significant contribution to ensuring that Switzerland is supplied with an adequate number of well-qualified healthcare professionals. It promotes patient-focussed, coordinated and competence-oriented work by specialists and works together with the cantons and other partners to develop care models, especially for particularly vulnerable people.
