Promoting physical activity

Regular physical activity reduces the risk of widespread, non-communicable conditions such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and back pain plus some types of cancer.

Physical activity is generally defined as «any form of exercise requiring muscle exertion and higher energy consumption than when at rest». This definition covers every scenario involving physical activity: leisure time – when most sporting activities occur – work, school, in and around the home or on foot or engaging in human-powered transport (active mobility).

The activity level of each individual is influenced by personal, physical, social and economic factors plus their living environment. We accordingly spread our efforts across different areas to promote more physical activity in everyday life.
