Suva and the other accident insurers promote the prevention of non-occupational accidents. Together they run the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (cap). The cap helps prevent non-occupational accidents in the areas of home and leisure, sports and road traffic through awareness-raising and safety campaigns. It also coordinates efforts in this area.

Advice and guidance

Responsibility for preventing non-occupational accidents lies with employees. They can obtain advice and guidance from the cap and the accident insurers (regarding ways of preventing accidents in the areas of home and leisure, road traffic, sports and a wide range of other hazardous situations). The cap also runs general safety campaigns, in particular encouraging people to wear seat belts and protective helmets. The cap also promotes the safe design of public roads and thoroughfares, facilities (sports facilities) and appliances (safety fixtures).

Costs of providing advice and guidance

The costs of providing advice and other measures aimed at preventing non-occupational accidents are covered by supplementary premiums for non-occupational accident insurance.
