Suva and the other accident insurers promote the prevention of non-occupational accidents. Together they operate the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (BFU), which helps to prevent non-occupational accidents – on the roads, at home, during leisure time – through awareness-raising and safety campaigns. It also coordinates efforts in this area.

Advisory services

Employees are responsible for preventing non-occupational accidents. They receive advice from the BFU and the accident insurers on practical ways of preventing accidents in the areas of home and leisure, road traffic, sport and a wide range of other potentially hazardous situations. Through general safety campaigns, the BFU also encourages people to wear seat belts and helmets. The BFU also promotes the safe design of public roads and areas, (sports) facilities, and appliances (safety bindings for skis).

Costs of advisory services

The costs of advisory services and other measures aimed at preventing non-occupational accidents are covered by supplements on non-occupational accident insurance premiums.
