Revision of the Federal Act on Accident Insurance (AIA)

What was started in 2006 came to its successful conclusion on 25 September 2015: in the final vote, the National Council and the Council of States approved the AIA revision. The changes to the act came into force on 1 January 2017.

The AIA revision, based on draft 2 of the dispatch of 30 May 2008 (SUVA organisation and ancillary activities) and on the new draft 1 of the supplementary dispatch of 19 September 2014 (accident insurance and accident prevention), was adopted by both councils in the final vote on 25 September 2015, thus concluding a process that had lasted several years. The supplementary dispatch was based on a suggested compromise brought forward by the social partners which was also supported by the insurers.

Parliament was highly respectful of the fact that the revisions proposed in the supplementary dispatch were broad-based and consensual.
