Switzerland has concluded international social security agreements with 44 countries to date. Switzerland has, furthermore, ratified several agreements that were developed by international organisations on specific aspects of social security.
The objectives of these agreements are: guaranteeing the equal treatment of citizens from the contracting states, the determination of the applicable legislation, and the payment of social security benefits abroad. These can be divided into two categories: agreements between Switzerland and several countries, and those between Switzerland and a single country.
