International health security

A number of health threats call for cooperation between different countries. Switzerland applies the International Health Regulations and the action plan against antimicrobial resistance drawn up by the WHO to this end. It also participates in the Global Health Security Agenda.

International Health Regulations (IHR)

Switzerland applies the International Health Regulations IHR drawn up by the WHO in order to protect itself against certain serious threats to public health. Should such a threat arise, it coordinates its response with the WHO member states.

Global Health Security Agenda

Switzerland participates in the Global Health Security Agenda. Launched by the United States, this initiative is aimed at boosting the efficiency of the global fight against communicable diseases, including Ebola, polio and MERS coronavirus.

The global issue of antimicrobial resistance

Throughout the world, viruses and bacteria are becoming increasingly resistant to antimicrobial treatments. Switzerland is actively participating in the WHO strategy to limit antimicrobial resistance.
