RS viruses cause colds, flu-like illnesses and bronchiolitis mainly in the winter half-year. They often lead to hospitalisation. The monoclonal antibody Nirsevimab is available for infants since October 2024. It is covered by basic health insurance. In addition, two vaccines are currently available for people aged 60 and over. One of these is also approved as a vaccination for pregnant women to protect their newborns.
