The Swiss Influenza Pandemic Plan is an important planning instrument enabling the various actors (the Confederation, cantons and institutions concerned) to prepare for a pandemic, and facilitating international coordination.
Swiss pandemic preparedness formulates preparatory measures and actions applicable to the management of a pandemic. The Swiss Influenza Pandemic Plan has been regularly revised and updated by the Federal Commission for Pandemic Preparedness (FCP) and the FOPH since 2004. The last version was published in 2018.
Revision of the Swiss Influenza Pandemic Plan
The Swiss Influenza Pandemic Plan is currently being revised to incorporate the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. Several objectives are being pursued as part of this revision: Consideration of different pathogen classes, updating of content by internal FOPH and external experts as well as the introduction of a pandemic preparedness information platform for an easier use of the content.
Stakeholders are involved in the revision process. A working version of the revised pandemic plan was submitted to selected stakeholders for consultation from April to August 2024. The results of the consultation and the subsequent amendments were published in a report in March 2025.
The revised version is expected to be available mid-2025 and will form the basis for the continual updating of the plan. In the meantime, the 2018 Swiss Influenza Pandemic Plan remains the reference document.
