What is the SwissCovid app?

The SwissCovid app helps to make sure that not as many people get the coronavirus.

Everyone can install the SwissCovid app on their smartphone.

What do you have to do to use the SwissCovid app?

You must download the SwissCovid app properly.
This is very important.
Here are the instructions to install the app:

You do not need to do anything else.

Who should use the SwissCovid app?

It would be best if as many people as possible use the SwissCovid app.
You do not have to use it though.

What does the SwissCovid app do?

The SwissCovid app does 2 things:

  1. It notifies you if you have had contact with a sick person.
    You will receive a message on your smartphone.
  2. It tells other people if you become sick.
    Other people will receive a message about this on their smartphones.
    Only people who have had contact with you will receive a message.

What do you have to do if you receive a message on your smartphone?

If you receive a message, you might have the coronavirus.
That's why it is important that you stay at home!

Call your doctor.
They can tell you what you need to do.

You can call this number every day between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m..

What must you do with the SwissCovid app if you are sick?

You are sick and have taken a coronavirus test.
The coronavirus test is positive.
This means that you might have given the coronavirus to other people.

You will then receive a Covid code.
This is a long number.
You will receive this Covid code from the canton or from your doctor.
You might not receive the Covid code straight away.

You can type this long number into the app.
This is voluntary.
Doing this will inform the people who you have been in contact with.
But no-one will know who has given this information.
It is anonymous.

Other people will receive a message about this on their smartphones.
The other people will then know that they might have the coronavirus.

Only people who have had contact with you will receive a message.

How does the SwissCovid app work exactly?

Here is an example:

Vera has the SwissCovid app on her smartphone.
Hans has the SwissCovid app on his smartphone.

Vera and Hans sit in the same section of a train.
They ride the train for more than 15 minutes.
They do not know each other.

Vera becomes sick 2 days later.
She takes the coronavirus test.
The coronavirus test is positive.
This means that Vera has the coronavirus.
She might have given it to Hans when they were on the train at the same time.

That is why it is important that Hans knows that Vera has the coronavirus.
This makes sure that Hans does not give the coronavirus to other people.

Vera receives a Covid code.
She types this long number into the SwissCovid app.

The SwissCovid app on Vera's smartphone now sends a message
to the SwissCovid app on Hans' smartphone.
Hans receives a message on his smartphone.

Hans does not know that the message comes from Vera.
But he knows that he might have the coronavirus.
Hans stays at home.
He calls his doctor on the telephone.
The doctor tells him what he has to do now.
