What is the coronavirus test?

A coronavirus test can help you find out whether you have the coronavirus. Or not.

There are different types of coronavirus test.
New coronavirus tests are being introduced constantly.

Most of the tests are carried out using a swab.
This means: A healthcare specialist takes a small sample of mucous or saliva from your nose or throat.

The coronavirus can be seen in your mucous or saliva.
A laboratory expert will examine this sample
and will see whether you have the coronavirus or not.

When should you take a coronavirus test?

Do you have one or several symptoms?
If so, you should take a coronavirus test as soon as possible.

Where can you take a coronavirus test?

There are a number of places where you can take a coronavirus test in each canton.
You had best call your doctor
to find out where you can take a coronavirus test.

What happens after a coronavirus test?

Stay at home.
You can pass on the virus to others even if you don't feel sick.
Wait for the result of your coronavirus test.

You will be notified as soon as the result is available.
This can sometimes take up to 2 days.
Perhaps you will receive the result by phone or text message.

The following results are possible:

  • The coronavirus test is positive.
    This means: You have the coronavirus.
  • The coronavirus test is negative.
    This means: You don't have the coronavirus.

What must you do if the coronavirus test is positive?

This means: You have the coronavirus.

You can infect other people.
What is important now:

Stay in isolation.

This means: You must stay at home.

What must you do if the coronavirus test is negative?

This means: You don't have the coronavirus.

You can only leave your home if you have no more symptoms for one day and one night.
