COVID-19: COVID certificates adapted to EU rules

Bern, 27.04.2022 - At its meeting of 27 April, the Federal Council decided that COVID recovery certificates can in future also be issued on the basis of a positive rapid antigen test. Because of new rules in the EU, these certificates will be recognised internationally.

Certificates of recovery can now also be issued in Switzerland on the basis of a positive rapid antigen test or a laboratory-based immunological analysis for SARS-CoV-2 antigens. These certificates are valid for 180 days and – as this is an adoption of the EU regulation – are in principle recognised internationally. They can be issued retroactively for positive test results from 1 October 2021.

Such certificates were already issued in Switzerland between 24 January and 16 February 2022. However, because no similar rules existed at EU level at the time, they were only valid in Switzerland (‘Swiss certificate’). Certificates already issued on this basis must be applied for again and re-issued for international compatibility.

The COVID-19 Certificates Ordinance is being adapted to the EU rules accordingly. The amendment will enter into force on 2 May 2022.
