Health insurance: Data exchange between insurers and cantons regarding non-payment of premiums and cost sharing, as well as premium reductions

Based on the Federal Law on Health Insurance, the Ordinance on Health Insurance and the Ordinance of the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) on the exchange of data concerning non-payment of premiums and cost sharing and concerning premium reductions, insurers and cantons shall exchange data on insured persons electronically in a uniform manner for the areas mentioned in the title of the Ordinance of the FDHA.

The cantons and insurers must exchange their data on non-payment of premiums and cost sharing as well as on premium reductions in accordance with a uniform standard (article 64a paragraph 7ter and article 65 paragraph 2 of the Federal Law on Health Insurance).

The Federal Council has regulated the rights and obligations of the cantons and insurers in the Ordinance on Health Insurance (articles 105a to 105m and 106b to 106e).

The FDHA has laid down the details in the Ordinance on the exchange of data concerning non-payment of premiums and cost sharing and concerning premium reductions.
