Communicable Diseases Division
Communicable diseases pose a risk to public health. The division monitors these diseases, regularly publishes reports on the epidemiological situation, defines and implements prevention and control strategies.
Our mission: We work with our partners to ensure that communicable diseases are monitored, prevented and combated with appropriate measures, and that people are informed and protect themselves.
The Communicable Diseases Division issues directives, prepares ordinances and laws, and draws up recommendations for the medical profession and members of the public. It aims to work with cantons, international health authorities and other partners to:
- Measurably reduce the burden of communicable diseases
- Provide members of the public with timely information about communicable diseases
- Be prepared for health crises and identify risks at an early stage, and
- Contain the effects of outbreaks and epidemics of communicable diseases in Switzerland.
The division works on a wide range of topics, such as antibiotic resistance, sexually transmitted infections, zoonotic diseases, food-borne and respiratory infections, hospital and nursing home infections, and vaccinations.
