The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) is part of the Federal Department of Home Affairs. As the national authority in health matters, the FOPH represents Switzerland in international organisations and in dealings with other countries. Within Switzerland it is responsible - together with the cantons - for public health and the development of national health policy.

Along with the cantons it is responsible for public health in Switzerland and for developing national health policy. As the national health authority, the FOPH also represents Switzerland's interests in the field of health in international organisations and with respect to other countries.
The FOPH employs 600 people (490.9 full-time equivalent jobs - status December 2013). For 2014 it has a budget of CHF 193 million and administers CHF 2.249 billion reserved for premium reductions in the compulsory health insurance system and CHF 195 million in military insurance payments.
